Canada Geese

These geese are quite common in the Northwest. A number of them have become permanent year round residents, forgoing migration. Most Canada Geese though, like their relatives the Brants, Swans and Snow Geese, make long migrations, some for thousands of miles, each spring and fall. I like filming them because they are both graceful and muscular in flight. They can also occasionally be quite comical. Sometimes one bird in a flock will flip upside down for no apparent reason, and the others will find themselves so perplexed by this behavior that they’ll all suddenly start spazzing out, attempting to fly upside down, sideways, and in other un-recommended ways.
